What is Vue.js
Hello, students! Welcome to Lesson 1 of Introduction to Vue.js. Today, we’ll learn about Vue.js, one of the most popular and widely used JavaScript frameworks in the world.
What is a framework?
A framework is a structure that provides a foundation for software development. It offers a set of components and APIs that can be used to build applications quickly and efficiently.
What is Vue.js?
Vue.js is a progressive JavaScript framework for building user interfaces. It is lightweight, flexible, and easy to learn.
Progressive
What does “progressive” mean? It means you can start using Vue.js in your application even if you don’t know everything about it. You can begin with small pieces of Vue.js, and as you learn more, you can add more functionality to your application.
User Interfaces
A user interface (UI) is how users interact with an application. The UI is responsible for displaying information to the user and enabling them to perform actions.
Features
Vue.js offers several features that make it an excellent choice for UI development. These features include:
- Component declaration: Vue.js allows you to declare custom components that can be reused in your application.
- Data binding: Vue.js enables you to bind data from your application to the DOM, making it easier to update the UI with the latest information.
- Reactivity: Vue.js is a reactive framework, meaning it monitors changes in data and automatically updates the UI.
Example
Let’s look at a simple example of using Vue.js to create a user interface.
<!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8"> <title>My First Vue.js App</title> </head> <body> <div id="app"> <h1>Hello, world!</h1> </div> <script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/vue@2.6.14/dist/vue.min.js"></script> <script> const app = new Vue({ el: "#app", data: { message: "Hello, world!" } }); </script> </body> </html>
This code creates a simple HTML page with a header and a body. In the body of the page, there’s a div
element with the ID app
.
In the JavaScript script, we create a Vue instance named app
. We pass the div
element with the ID app
as the value of the el
attribute of the instance.
We also define a property called message
on the app
instance. This property stores the message that will be displayed in the page header.
Running this code will render the page with the following appearance:
Hello, world!
Conclusion
In this lesson, we learned what Vue.js is and some of its key features. In the next lesson, we will explore the advantages of using Vue.js.
Challenge
Here’s a challenge for you:
- Modify the previous example to display a list of people’s names.
Good luck!
