Advanced Strategies for Sharing Data Between Sibling or Distant Components in the Hierarchy

When you’re building complex React applications, it can be challenging to pass data between components that don’t have a direct parent-child relationship in the hierarchy.

Fortunately, there are advanced strategies that can be used to overcome this obstacle. One of these strategies is using a global state manager, such as Redux.

With Redux, you can store your application’s state in a centralized location and access it from any component, no matter where it is in the hierarchy.

This eliminates the need to pass data through multiple levels of components and greatly simplifies communication between sibling or distant components in the hierarchy.

Another approach is using contexts in React. Contexts allow you to share data between components without needing to pass them manually through props.

This is especially useful when you have multiple nested components that need to access the same data.

Let’s take a look at an example of how you can use a context to share data between sibling components:

// Creating the context
import React, { createContext, useContext, useState } from 'react';

const DataContext = createContext();

// Context Provider
const DataProvider = ({ children }) => {
  const [data, setData] = useState();

  return (
    <DataContext.Provider value={{ data, setData }}>
      {children}
    </DataContext.Provider>
  );
};

// Using the context in a child component
const ChildComponent = () => {
  const { data, setData } = useContext(DataContext);

  const handleClick = () => {
    setData('New data');
  };

  return (
    <div>
      <p>Data: {data}</p>
      <button onClick={handleClick}>Update Data</button>
    </div>
  );
};

In this example, the ChildComponent accesses the context data using the useContext hook. When the button is clicked, it updates the data in the context using the setData function.

This allows other components that are also consuming the same context to automatically receive the updated data.

These are just a few of the advanced strategies you can use to share data between sibling or distant components in the hierarchy in React.
