modifier to prevent the event from propagating to parent elements. This is useful to prevent events from being unintentionally triggered. - Use the
.prevent
modifier to prevent the default event from occurring. This is useful to prevent default actions, such as focusing on an input element, from being executed. - Use the
.capture
modifier to capture the event before it reaches the element that triggered it. This is useful to handle the event before it is processed by the triggering element.
Examples
Let’s see some examples of how to use event modifiers effectively:
- To prevent a user from leaving a page without saving changes:
<form v-on:submit.prevent="save()"> </form>
In the example above, the submit
event will be captured by the form
component. The save()
method will be called when the user clicks the “Submit” button, but the submit
event will not propagate to the browser. This prevents the user from leaving the page without saving their changes.
- To prevent a user from entering invalid values in an input field:
<input v-on:keydown.enter.prevent="checkValue">
In the example above, the keydown
event will be captured by the input element. The checkValue()
method will be called when the user presses the Enter key, but the keydown
event will not propagate to the input element. This prevents the user from entering invalid values in the input field.
- To handle an event before it reaches the triggering element:

In the example above, the click
event will be captured by the parent div
element. The openModal()
method will be called when the user clicks the button, before the click
event reaches the button
element. This allows the div
component to handle the event before it is processed by the button
element.
